A long history of steadfastness, support and mutual respect brings together Syria and Cuba, during which the friendship between the two countries was characterized by coordination in various fields according to clear and common visions regarding international issues and issues of common concern.

The sixty-first anniversary of the victory of the Cuban revolution comes on the first of January, at a time when the two countries are taking a firm approach based on respecting the sovereignty of states, non-interference in their internal affairs, and confronting international terrorism.

The depth of relations between the two countries was embodied in Cuba's position on the terrorist war against Syria and its support in various international forums and the continuation of its embassy in Damascus during its period of crisis, while Syria continued its unwavering support for the struggle of the Cuban people against imperialism and the decades-old economic blockade.

During the terrorist war on Syria, Cuba did not stop supplying drug shipments in accordance with the agreements signed between the two countries. These shipments included about 15 classes of medicines, including five-year vaccinations, to immunize children.

Cuba continues to offer free scholarships for Syrian students to study medicine at Cuban universities for the first undergraduate and postgraduate levels. During this year, Cuba has awarded 10 scholarships for postgraduate studies in human medicine.

The two countries are continuing their efforts to enhance bilateral relations in various fields and to elevate them to the level of political relations, as the year 2019 witnessed a wide exchange for official delegations, which contributed to the signing of a cultural exchange agreement with the aim of cooperation in the field of culture and arts and the preservation, restoration and preservation of cultural assets and the organization of cultural days for both countries and exhibitions of plastic arts .

In the economic field, Cuba participated in the activities of the 61st session of the Damascus International Fair, while Syria participated in the works of the thirty-seventh international fair in Havana, which reflected the desire of the two countries to continue their cooperation in light of the current circumstances during which they are under unfair siege by the United States and other parties because of the positions of Syria and Cuba Independent and rejecting hegemony politics.

Cuba faces a stifling blockade imposed by the United States of America nearly six decades ago, which causes daily losses of the Cuban people, estimated at 12 million dollars.

It is worth noting that Cuba continues to stand up to the blockade, as it has managed to achieve many achievements, especially in the field of education, where there are more than 50 universities and more than 75 thousand university students, and about 20 thousand Cuban doctors provide health services free of charge in 83 countries.
