The Police Traffic Division opened 2020 in record preparation - from north to south - by reinforcing forces on all roads and recreation sites to ensure the safety of celebrants. As part of the preparations during the night (Tuesday), the head of the traffic division, Avi Edari, visited the layout of police officers and volunteers of the traffic department who carried out enforcement activities against life-threatening and road bullying, placing drunk barriers and locating drivers who commit unusual speeding offenses.

Along with law enforcement activities and public service, inspection and publicity positions were set up to allow drivers to check the level of alcohol before driving and driving.

In 2019, on the New Year's Eve, 139 drivers were under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and last night police officers arrested 144 drivers whose driver's license was revoked and their vehicle was disabled for 30 days.

Only on New Year's Eve, about 1,100 traffic reports were recorded, 365 drivers were caught while driving at speeds exceeding the maximum allowed by law and revoked for a month for 201 drivers who committed serious traffic offenses. Also, 190 vehicles were disabled for 30 days following traffic offenses committed by their drivers .

In one case last night on Highway 40 in the southern area, a 19-year-old driver from Lod was caught driving at 187 mph. Her license was revoked and she was summoned to court.

In another incident, a new driver for a drunkenness test was arrested in the southern area, and his body was found to have an amount of 595 mg of alcohol - nearly 12. The driver was detained for questioning and released for house arrest after his license was revoked and his vehicle was disabled for 30 days.

In addition to all this, police forces conducted covert and visible operations to locate businesses selling alcohol to minors. During the operation, 13 businesses were found that were in violation of the law.

The police operated undercover agents who made several purchases of alcohol at local businesses in Bnei Brak and the Ono Valley area. Sellers were detained for questioning and released under restrictive conditions, and some business owners will be summoned for a hearing before the business closes.
