The Hong Kong Ocean Park Conservation Fund has received notifications to follow up on three cetacean stranding cases, the first three in the year. Among the two sub-adult porpoise cases found at Acacia Bay and Nam Wai, Sai Kung, were 118 cm and 142 cm in length, respectively. The stranded conditions were severe rot or bone decay at the fifth level and severe rot at the fourth level, respectively.

As for the other stranded case found in Deep Water Bay, a juvenile streaked dolphin was about 160 cm in length and the sex was female. The cause of death in all cases has yet to be determined, and the Conservation Fund has brought the body back to Ocean Park for detailed testing.

The Hong Kong Ocean Park Conservation Fund urges the public to call the 1823 hotline if a suspected cetacean stranding case is found, and provide the time, place, and photos of the stranded discovery so that the action team can follow up as soon as possible.

Cetaceans have been stranded for many years. "Ghost nets" are full of garbage in the stomach and cause insufficient nutrition and osteoporosis.

3 cases of cetaceans stranded in Hong Kong per day increased to 50 this year

In the first two months of this year, cetaceans stranded 15 cases, four times the same period last year. Scholars approved infrastructure damage to habitats.
