Keeping tight after Quds Force commander's dramatic assassination: The IDF announced this morning (Friday) that the Hermon site will be closed to visitors today after a state-of-the-art assessment is underway, however.
The Hermon, as I recall, was a target several times for attacks by Iranian militias. In June 2019, a rocket was fired at the Hermon that landed on the site. Also, about a year ago, two missiles were fired on the Hermon past from Syria.
Pro-Iranian media as well as Revolutionary Guards accounts on social networks have begun to report that Israel has helped the US eliminate Kassem Suleimani and al-Mohandis (deputy commander of the suspected militia in Iraq) and that "the response will be harsh".
The drama began during the night that Iraqi media reported that the US Air Force had killed the Quds Force commander of the Revolutionary Guards, General Qassim Suleimani, along with a senior terrorist commander suspected a-Sha'abi, Abu Mahi Hadi al-Mohands, as they were leaving Baghdad International Airport.
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Jawad Zarif has attacked the US on Twitter, writing: "US international terrorist operation, targeting and assassination of General Suleimani - the most effective force commander fighting ISIS, Al Nusra and al-Qaeda - is extremely dangerous And stupid escalation. USA bears responsibility for all the consequences of the rogue adventure "
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has welcomed US action in Iraq, posting a video on the Twitter network of masses of Iraqi citizens celebrating the streets of Sulimani's assassination. Pompeo tweeted on the Twitter network: "Iraqis - Iraqis - Iraqis on the streets for freedom; thank you very much for the fact that General Suleimani is no longer."
