(CNN) - The air strike ordered by President Donald Trump that killed Qasem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has triggered reactions both in the Middle East as in the world.

Iran's president praised Soleimani as a hero who led the fight against terrorism.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani reacted to the death of the nation's main military commander, Qasem Soleimani, saying that "this cowardly act is another sign of the frustration and impotence of the United States in the region," in a public statement released by the official news agency of Iran.

Rouhani, like other senior officials in Iran, also promised reprisals for his death: "Without a doubt, the great nation of Iran and other free nations in the region will take revenge for this terrible crime committed by American criminals."

Rouhani also honored Soleimani's achievements, calling him a hero of Iranian history who defended himself against terrorism.

"I condemn this cruel act but at the same time I honor the brilliant service of this brave hero of the history of Iran who defended the territorial integrity of the country and led the fight against terrorism and extremism in the region."

The president then expressed his condolences to the supreme leader, the commander in chief, the people of Iran, the revolutionary guards, the loved ones of the victims and especially the Soleimani family, the statement said.

Iran's Foreign Minister Javad Zarif condemned the attack on Soleimani by the US. UU. and said it will only strengthen resistance against the US. UU.
