In Burkina Faso, 14 people were killed in a bomb attack on a school bus. Another nine people were injured. Children may be among the victims. It is not yet clear who is responsible for the crime in the northern province of Sourou.
Burkina Faso was once considered a relatively quiet region in the Sahel region. However, in recent years, Islamist groups close to Al Qaeda and IS have carried out more attacks, despite international efforts to reduce the number of such attacks.
Hundreds of people have been killed in attacks in recent years. It was only on December 24 that insurgents killed 35 people, almost all of them women, in the northern province of Soum.
