An Argentinian girl has found to her astonishment that her new pet is not a poor street cat she found on the street and adopted, but is in fact a dangerous wild animal - a Puma of Jaguarundi. It all began when Florence Lobo was enjoying a day of fishing near Santa Rosa de Lalas, a town in northern Tucumán, when she and her brother heard a faint cry. They thought it was a fallen bird, but then they found two puppies lying on the floor beside a dead cat's body. Lobo adopted them, gave them shelter at home and called them Tito and Danny.

The puppy Danny died suddenly after two weeks, and according to the magazine Al Tucuman, Lobo discovered over time that Tito was too active, but she didn't suspect anything. "He liked to play, bite, run pretty fast," she said. "He liked to get on the table and jump off. I thought it was normal." Tito's hyperactivity eventually hurt him when he injured one of his legs. She took him to the vet - who told him he didn't know what this animal was, but it was obviously not a cat.

After contacting a number of other veterinarians who were far from the price range she could afford, the 18-year-old student contacted a wildlife expert, who glanced at several photos to confirm Tito was indeed a wild cat. Lobo handed Tito to the animal rescue organization Horco Molle, where Tito was dubbed Jaguarundi, a medium-sized carnivorous mammal species from the cat family. Jaguarundi is common from Texas in the United States to South America. Its average length is 65 cm with a 45 cm tail and weighs about 6 kg. It has short legs and a little reminiscent of otter, small ears and round. For this reason, they are often called "otter cats." But their heads are wide, their furs uniform in color ranging from black to dark-brown, or red to chestnut.

Once identified, it was decided that Tito would receive medical treatment for his injured foot before being released. "He followed me everywhere," Lobo says, "he lacked no meat, milk or anything else. He was a pet to me.
