Within the framework of the friendship and cooperation relations between Syria and India, an Indian initiative has completed the installation of 130 industrial parties for war casualties and persons with disabilities in Syria, and it continues to reach 500 casualties.

The “India for Humanity” initiative was launched on the 25th of last December in cooperation between the Ministries of Social Affairs, Labor and Health and the Indian Embassy in Damascus, and it will last for 45 days to install 500 artificial limbs for beneficiaries from different governorates at the Vocational Rehabilitation Institute for Persons with Disabilities in Damascus.

The initiative includes a technical medical team from India supervised by the Indian Association (Mahawir Rehabilitation for Disabled), installing prosthetics in coordination with the two ministries.

In a speech to her during the official opening of the initiative, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Rimah Qadri pointed out that the government supported this initiative to be an additional building block for cooperation between the Syrian and Indian sides, especially in the humanitarian fields, indicating that the project has a positive impact on the beneficiaries returning to their normal lives and enabling them to work. At the same time, the importance of the sustainability of this initiative to reach the establishment of a joint Syrian-Indian center specialized in prosthetics.

In a speech to the Indian ambassador in Damascus, Hafizur Rahman, the initiative comes on the occasion of the 150th birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the spiritual father of India, the symbol of humanity, love and peace for the world, and an embodiment of the deep and deeply-rooted friendship between India and Syria and the close cooperation between them.

The Indian ambassador pointed to India's continuous support for Syria and respect for its sovereignty, territorial integrity and solidarity with it in its war on terrorism, pointing out that the initiative will be expanded to include the installation of 600 parties and will not be the last as it is planned to establish a course in India for a number of specialists in the field of installing prostheses in Syria within the grants provided From the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of his country.

The Director of the Professional Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities, Dr. Muhammad Hadi Mashhadiyah, stated that the beneficiaries of the project were those who lost one or more parties due to various types of accidents, including war or traffic, and as a result of a disease or congenital injury where the average rate of prosthesis installation reaches 13 persons, praising the efforts of the Indian team in terms of Speed ​​in completion and manufacture of rubber ends suitable for a large number of cases.

In turn, the director of the Center for Rehabilitation and Synthesis of Prosthetics in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Rafeef Dhahiya, indicated that the role of the Ministry was to examine the cases that benefit from the project, evaluate its medical condition and the level of amputation, determine the suitability of the manufacturer and follow up the case after installation.

Dr. Raymond Hilal Nawah, President of Step Board of the Artificial Limbs Association, noted the importance of the project in terms of the number of parties that will be installed and for the various governorates and restore joy to its beneficiaries, as well as its role in exchanging experiences between the agencies working in this field in Syria and India.
