Smoke from the huge fires sweeping Australia reached Chile and Argentina after it crossed 12 thousand kilometers over the Pacific Ocean, according to what the weather monitoring authorities announced in these two countries.

"The sun tended to red in the early morning hours due to a cloud of smoke caused by fires in Australia," AFP quoted Patricio Aura, a researcher at the Chilean Meteorological Institute, as saying.

A smoke cloud was detected at an altitude of six thousand meters, and it is not expected that any natural phenomenon will cause it to descend to the surface of the earth.

Meanwhile, the Argentine weather monitor released satellite imagery showing a cloud of smoke "transported by air masses bound from west to east".

The meteorological company (Metsol), which is a reference in this area in the region, indicated that smoke could reach the state of Rio Grande do Sul located in the southernmost part of Brazil.

And Australia has been experiencing huge fires since last September, which killed 24 people and caused an area almost the size of the Irish island.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that his government had called in three thousand reservists to help fight the wildfires that devoured in large parts of the continent in an unprecedented mobilization in the country's history.

For months now, the Australian Army has been contributing to the firefighting effort by conducting aerial reconnaissance, mapping, search and rescue, and logistical and air support. He has previously deployed 2,000 soldiers as part of these efforts.
