A particularly sweet surprise awaited police detectives and customs officials at the border crossing at Ben Gurion Airport, after uncovering the attempt to smuggle six Pomeranian puppies.
Israeli police detectives in the Ben Gurion Airport detained a woman who arrived in the country from Russia on suspicion of arresting suspects.
The suspect, 28, from Haifa, was transported to Customs for further treatment, and the puppies were transferred to veterinary care.
Although the puppies are cute, smuggling them is a serious violation of the law, and part of the shocking market of trading and breeding certain breeds of dogs, which is done, in many cases in harsh and abusive conditions.
