Iran and Century Plan: New Envoy Has Arrived | Israel today

Political-political

Trump's special envoy, Avi Berkowitz, has quietly arrived in Israel, for meetings with Netanyahu and Gantz • It seems at stake: Iran, Palestinians and progress with Arab states

The Prime Minister's House in Jerusalem held a silent but dramatic meeting last night. Netanyahu's residence has reached Trump's new representative that the Palestinian issue is on his desk. This is Attorney Avi Berkowitz, just 32, who serves as President Trump's special assistant and sends them to international negotiations.

Berkowitz has long entered Jason D.'s shoes. Greenblatt, who carried these degrees until the beginning of the Hebrew year - then decided to retire and make his home. Like his boss, Jared Kushner, and like many of the staff around Trump, Berkowitz also does a lot - but quietly. As a former sitting student, he did not forget the verse "and austerity". At times it seems as if his gentleness and kindness contradict the immense power he holds in his hands, as one who works closely with the most powerful man in the world.

More on:

• Trump: "The Jewish State Has Never Been a Better Member"

Berkowitz came to Trump around his son-in-law Kushner. They recognized New York studies and acted together in real estate. When Trump broke into politics in 2015, his son-in-law Jared Kushner asked Berkowitz to join the campaign. Since then, Berkowitz has been close to Kushner, and these two days are working overtime, too, to win the election. 2020. Although in 2016, they had a significant part in a political victory that will be for decades to come, they are not confused for a moment and do not think the next election is in the pocket.

But apart from politics there are also political issues at stake and according to estimates, which Berkowitz came to address. Neither the Israeli nor the US side gave details on the content of the meetings held here in Berkowitz, but "Israel Today" learned that US Ambassador David Friedman was attended by him, and that besides Netanyahu, he also met Blue Ben-Gantz chairman last night. Missed the traditional image that no American official has missed yet - at the embassy entrance in Jerusalem, and a fateful decision should be made soon, too. The State Department has to decide whether the permanent embassy building will be erected in the current complex (in Israel) Hebron (Jerusalem Municipality will be pleased).

Now to content: Berkowitz is presumably talking to Netanyahu about the non-war agreement with the Arab states. In light of what has been happening in our region in recent days, and especially in view of the Iranian declarations of revenge or the removal of the Americans from Iraq, it is requested that the US-Israeli-Sunni side prepare a response. A non-war agreement between Israel and the Gulf authorities will certainly convey a positive message to the region.

Another issue that came up was the possibility of advertising the "Century Plan". The rule that has been long-established is "publish the program at the right time." Such timing has not come in the last three years. Therefore, it seems, and it is only an assessment, that Berkowitz's question to Netanyahu and Gantz posed is whether they think it is right to publish the plan and do they think there is a conflict between an election campaign and a political step that is significant on the part of the government? Because there is room to argue that given the political time that is running out in both the US and Israel - the time has come to leave.

Either way, for Berkowitz, who has visited the country many times privately or as Greenblatt's aide, it was a baptism of fire as a publisher and a speaker on behalf of the administration. He left last night - but the results of his visit will soon be heard.
