The Polish president's decision comes on the back of a confrontation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who accused his country of cooperating with Adolf Hitler and anti-Semitism. Tensions between Moscow and Warsaw have intensified in recent years, due to the recent concern, EU and NATO membership, Russia's regional aspirations.
Speaking to senior military officials, Putin said Poland and Nazi Germany cooperated during World War II. Using Putin's blatant language, he claimed that a Polish ambassador to the war had allegedly promised to erect a statue of Hitler in Warsaw because of his promises to send Jews to Africa. "Bastard, anti-Semitic pig, you can't put it any other way," Putin said. However, he noted that the Soviet Union had signed a secret agreement with Nazi Germany - known as the Ribbentrop-Molotov agreement - that divided Poland before the war.
