The defendant, Zhuang Haofeng, 26, pleaded not guilty to assaulting a police officer, and accused him of assaulting a police officer who was performing his duties, namely Senior Inspector Yu Tiansheng, at the junction of Arsenal Street and Wanker Road in Wan Chai on June 12 last year.

See if there is a spray-shaped aluminum can

Yu confessed that he and another colleague were wearing plain clothes on duty outside the Wan Chai Police Headquarters on the same day. During this period, he was informed that there was a demonstration in the direction of Admiralty Central and found that the defendant in black and masked was rushing from Admiralty to Moving forward in Wan Chai, the defendant suspected that there was a spray-shaped aluminum can in his trouser pocket, so he stepped forward to check, but after the defendant looked towards Yu, he turned to the right and hit Yu with his left near the neck. Yu and his colleagues immediately subdued the defendant and brought him into the police chief.

The defence challenges the witness's statement

The defense lawyer questioned the discrepancy between Yu's confession and the memo pad and confession. For example, after Yu claimed to “pick up” the defendant with his hand, he was attacked with his “hand”, but today he changed his claim to “shoot” the defendant with his hand. The defendant then "punched". In addition, Yu claimed earlier that the injury was not the face but the neck. Yu Ze insisted that he had filmed the defendant at that time, and the defendant also attacked him with his hand, but used a wrong word, but changed his word and said that he did not remember whether the defendant hit him with his fist or with his hand.

Yu acknowledged that there were other passers-by beside the defendant at the time of the attack, but he saw the defendant's attack on him; however, when the defense asked Yu to describe or demonstrate the defendant's actions, Yu claimed that he could not clearly express it, only referring to the short time after interception. He felt attacked on the face; eventually Yu admitted that he could not rule out the possibility that the defendant attacked him backhand.

The defence claims that Yu did not wear a warrant at the time

The defense also asked that Yu did not wear an appointment card when he arrested the defendant. Yu explained that the circumstances were not permissible, and in order to avoid affecting the mission, he decided not to wear the appointment card until the defendant was taken to the police station.
