Felipe Antonio Díaz Zamora had lived in Mexico for nine years. State authorities rule out that he was attacked because of his nationality.

Spanish chef Felipe Antonio Díaz Zamora had been in Mexico for nine years and was in the process of building a house for his family when he was found dead in his truck last December 5 in Tijuana, next to the US border.

The authorities of the state of Baja California believe that it was a premeditated attack, since Diaz, 43, received three direct shots, one of them to the skull, said special prosecutor Enrique Sánchez Serrano.

"We have a low probability that it is an assault, it may be something personal, but we do not consider it to be against your guild or a specific nationality," said the person in charge of the Prosecutor's Office for Crimes against Life in Baja California. Sánchez Serrano added in his December 7 conference that they were already reviewing the security camera shots near the homicide site.

Tijuana is one of the most violent cities in Mexico: 1,800 homicides were registered in the area last year, 60% of all murders in the state of Baja California, according to official records. So far this year it is estimated that more than 30 murders have occurred.

Díaz Zamora, originally from the Spanish region of Murcia, lived with his wife and four children, according to the Efe news agency. He worked for the Vámonos de Tapas restaurant and served food for filming in addition to his work in the tapas restaurant, as stated on his Facebook page.
