In recent decades, the libraries seemed to have disappeared from the homes, but now the comeback time has come. The return of the libraries to space has a number of reasons. The first is related to the fact that as home design consciousness grows, we all seek to incorporate culturally valuable items that convey sophistication and warmth. A second reason, equally important but quite surprising, is related to a multitude of systems such as air conditioning, multimedia and electricity that are elegantly and cleanly integrated.

"For many years, the libraries suffered from a problematic image," explains interior designer Inbal Berkowitz. "They began to be regarded as a cumbersome object that did not conform to the minimalist style that occupied the houses in Israel. On the face of it, technological advancement has led to the decline of libraries from their greatness, but is also the one that makes them huge again."

"Advanced production technologies now allow us to produce refined, minimalist, airy, and sculptural libraries that become an anchor in space. And that didn't stop there: Many understood that libraries could serve as a great element to cross and delimit a level between space, without blocking and sealing the space."

"In addition, the buffet that served as the ultimate multimedia piece of furniture underneath the television screens gives way to large, carefully designed TV walls. This is a carpentry item that hides not only the audio systems, but also the power and air conditioning systems."

Furniture designer Yifrush Ben-Zvi reinforces Berkowitz's remarks, explaining that the new libraries are also a key element in the hallways of the house, the bedrooms and the living room. "The essential differences between libraries located in the public space and libraries in the private rooms revolve mainly around the design itself and the choice of finishing materials," he explains.

"Usually in public spaces there is a tendency to choose a neutral, temporary and representative design, so there is usually work with classic materials in quiet colored. It is precisely in the bedrooms that a little more 'riot' in terms of color, where we really meet libraries made of oak, walnut or MDF Painted in the oven. When it comes to painted libraries, it's important to work with non-toxic water-based paints.

In order not to create graphic overload and space congestion, it is important to plan a composition in advance of placing the books and accessories. "It is advisable to choose a composition that is true to the space style," explains interior designer Yossi Shaul. "In a modern space, for example, it is recommended to work with asymmetrical compositions or the position that combines books horizontally and vertically. In the same breath, it is also important to design as part of the composition the location of the ornamental details and accessoris to create a proper balance between all items. 20 cm, so the shelves for them should be designed accordingly. In contrast, inspirational, art, design, etc. books are printed in varying sizes, so it's important to assign them dedicated shelves. "

"In one library, shelves of varying thickness can be combined, some closed and some open. It has to be decided whether the library will be used as a partition between spaces, and then it can be used on either side or whether it will be attached to one of the walls," Ben Zvi explains. "One of the current trends in the field is the use of integrated materials. Moreover, contemporary technologies allow for a seamless connection and stitching. It is important to remember that accurate and proper planning will ensure not only a good looking library, but also a means to maintain order and organization in space."
