The CA announced today (10th) that it will waive the requirement for local free TV licensees to broadcast educational television programs after the end of this school year, June 2020.

The CA stated that it had consulted relevant government policy bureaus regarding the wireless request to stop the broadcast of educational television programs. It was learned that the public's viewing of educational television programs through the Internet and mobile applications has become more common, and the ratings of these programs via free television continued On the low side (0 to 0.5 points), it is expected that the public's need to watch educational TV programs regularly on each school day through free TV channels will further decline. After completing the review of ETV services, the Education Bureau believes that ETV services should be repositioned from the financial year 2020-21, and is no longer limited to traditional TV programs, in order to develop more diversified curriculum resources in the era of e-learning .

After considering the wireless requirements and the above factors, the CA decided to waive the requirement to broadcast educational television programs from June 6, 2020, saying that as the public can continue to watch educational television through the free TV channels of Hong Kong and other new media platforms The termination of the program has little impact on the public. Wireless can use the free broadcast time to play other programs, giving viewers more choices to cater to their interests.
