Media affiliated with the rebels in Syria reported Friday that eight Iraqi Shiite militants suspected 'A-Sha'abi was killed in an attack attributed to Israel near the city of Bochmal on the Syrian side of the Syria-Iraq border.
Arab media in which the Lebanese channel "Al-Miadin" close to Hezbollah reported early this morning that Israeli fighter jets attacked Israeli missiles and ballistic missiles near al-Bukhmal on the Iraq-Syria border. Witnesses reported a fierce explosion heard in the al-Bukhmal area just minutes after Israeli aircraft allegedly circled in the airspace on the Iraq-Syria border.
According to reports in Lebanon and the Arab media, the attack destroyed a shipment of ballistic missiles from Iran that arrived shortly before and targeted pro-Iranian militia operatives operating in Iraq. The Syrian Monitoring Center for Human Rights reported that the attack was aimed at trucks of the pro-Iranian militias in the al-Bukhmal area, which led Iran's weapons and ballistic missiles to the pro-Iranian militias.

The back-crossing area and the Bochmal town in Syria to al-Qa'im in Iraq has in recent years become the focus of Shiite militia activity and the Quds force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. The region is a critical land link for the Iranian axis between Baghdad, Damascus and Tehran.
In the past year, reports have surfaced that Iran is building a major base of action for Shiite militias in the region, which was named "Imam Ali Base," after the Shiite founder of Islam. Concrete warehouses were built for the purpose of storing weapons, and a tunnel for rocket storage was documented. The site was attacked from the air several times.
