"They are the two most spoiled brats in history," former presenter and mirror editor Pierce Morgan called them. In a tweet attack on Twitter, Morgan said the death of Princess Diana did not grant him "a license to behave to the Queen in such a shocking way." The immediate comparison made to Harry and Megan's decision to spend more time with their toddler son, Prince Archie is that of King Edward VIII, who gave up the crown in 1936 to live with American Wallis Simpson, in a kind of exile in France.

"If they don't watch out, they might end up like a second-class celebrity. If you're trying to set up an alternative royal court, it's not going to work. It's pretty sad, the truth," royal historian Hugo Vickers told BBC Network.

"What really annoys me is that the cake cannot be eaten and left intact," said Arthur Edwards, longtime photographer for the Sun tabloid. "You can't be one moment in America or Canada, and one moment in London. Either you are a royal family member or you are not."

Palace Mirror Reporter Russell Maris said Harry and Megan may find themselves out of the family. "I imagine there will be repercussions, for everyone involved," he said.

The media is suffocating

The beginning seemed promising. In May 2018, the couple married in a grand ceremony, but one that included some updates to fit the spirit of the time, at Windsor Castle.
