Harry and Megan v. The Palace: The Spoiled Braters Endanger the British Crown

The surprising announcement of Prince Harry and Meghan Merkel was astonished at the palace, and was widely criticized. None of the royal family's officials publicly commented on the new scandal, raising speculation about the consequences of the dramatic move on the future of the monarchy. "If they don't watch out, they may end up like second-class celebrities."

When Britain seems to be embarking on a new path with the end of the first phase of the Barcasit and the political stability achieved after the last election, the kingdom is facing a new crisis. This time, from Prince Harry's studio and his wife, Meghan Merkel, who lost their lives in the media's gripping media, and probably the entire palace, who were shocked by the decision. Their surprising and dramatic message was answered with a barrage of criticism and outrage, along with many speculations about its implications for the future of monarchy.

"We have chosen to make a change this year, and begin sketching out a new progressive role within this institution," Harry and Megan, or their royal title to the Duke of Sussex, declared to everyone's amazement. "We want to withdraw from our duties as 'senior' members of the royal family, and to work for economic independence."

It is unclear how 35-year-old Harry, and sixth in line to the British crown, and American Megan, who played TV series before joining the palace, will become "half-royal," as royal biographers describe it, and how exactly they will fund themselves. None of the royal family's officials publicly commented on the new scandal, but UK tabloids say Charles and William were furious. Now, in collaboration with the government, they will try to end this crisis as soon as possible and with minimal image damage.

"They are the two most spoiled brats in history," former presenter and mirror editor Pierce Morgan called them. In a tweet attack on Twitter, Morgan said the death of Princess Diana did not grant him "a license to behave to the Queen in such a shocking way." It was Harry himself who said "he was too much a soldier, and less than a prince," about his military service in Afghanistan as a helicopter pilot, after being photographed naked at a party in Las Vegas in 2012.

The immediate comparison made to Harry and Megan's decision to spend more time with their toddler son, Prince Archie is that of King Edward VIII, who gave up the crown in 1936 to live with American Wallis Simpson, in a kind of exile in France.

"If they don't watch out, they might end up like a second-class celebrity. If you're trying to set up an alternative royal court, it's not going to work. It's pretty sad, the truth," royal historian Hugo Vickers told BBC Network.

In the Daily Mail, she dedicated the first 17 pages of Thursday's edition to the Rogue Kings.
Since the announcement, the palace has been trying to stop the landslide, after a few years descendants of Prince William, Harry's older and more royal brother, and of Duchess Kate Middleton, have produced sacred coverage and fueled the British public's sympathy with the archaic institution.

Just a month ago, another senior royalist, Prince Andrew, the queen's son, was forced to "retire" from public life for revealing his part in the abuse of his close friend Jeffrey Epstein, who ended his life last summer in a Manhattan cell while awaiting trial for pedophilia offenses. Earlier last year, Elder Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth's husband, got involved in a series of traffic offenses, including a car accident that happened on his charge and subsequently revoked his license. The queen herself admitted that it had been a "bumpy" year.

"What really annoys me is that the cake cannot be eaten and left intact," said Arthur Edwards, longtime photographer for the Sun tabloid. "You can't be one moment in America or Canada, and one moment in London. Either you are a royal family member or you are not."

Palace Mirror Reporter Russell Maris said Harry and Megan may find themselves out of the family. "I imagine there will be repercussions, for everyone involved," he said.

The media is suffocating

The beginning seemed promising. In May 2018, the couple married in a grand ceremony, but one that included some updates to fit the spirit of the time, at Windsor Castle. One of the highlights of the royal wedding, viewed by hundreds of millions of royal house fans around the world, was the sermon of Black American pastor Michael Currie, quoted by Martin Luther King King.

They soon found out that the media could both strangle and choke. Harry knows this well: his mother, Princess Diana, was killed in a car accident in Paris in 1997 when she tried to evade paparazzi cameras. While the Dukes of Sussex preached about the preservation of the environment, they continued to use private jets. In addition, they found it difficult to explain why they had to renovate their home with £ 2.4m of public money.

Back in their early days as a couple, Harry claimed that the media in Brittany was racistly covering Megan - she is a white father and a black mother - and sexist. In October, the couple sued the Daily Mail for "bullying" by the newspaper, and days later, it also sued the Sun and the Daily Mirror for allegedly breaking into his phone, even in the days before his relationship with Megan.

Opponents of the monarchy, who want to replace it in the republic, jumped at the bargain. "Taxpayers will rightly ask who will fund their lives overseas, the increased security around them and trips from here to North America," said Graham Smith, chairman of the Republic.

Prince Harry, who in his youth created scandals of a different kind, admitting to cannabis smoking and being photographed disguised as an SS soldier, said in his statement that he planned to restrict access to him and his family, but the British tabloids are hard to see, even beyond the kingdom.

Megan may return to play in the United States, but it is unclear how the palace will see it. "Maybe she'll have to be careful about the roles she chooses, because she's a royal family member - so she can't do too many daring sex scenes, for example," royal biographer Penny Jonor said.
