Al-Saadi's assassination reports come after two bodies of journalists who were shot dead Friday night by gunfire were identified by anonymous men who attacked their car in the southern state. In Iraq, the Shiite militias in the southern Basra province have claimed responsibility for the elimination, which they claim is threatening freedom of the press. In Iraq, there is now a great deal of anger at the Shi'ite a-Sha'abi militias, who are serving as the arm of Iran's influence in the country.
In recent days, tensions between the United States and Iran have intensified as a result of the assassination of Kassem Suleimani. The Qods Force commander was, among other things, in charge of relations and coordination with the pro-Iranian militias in Iraq and Syria, as well as relations with the Houthis in Yemen and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
According to United States President Donald Trump, Suleimani has planned an attack on U.S. targets and the killing of hundreds of people. The assassination came after activists affiliated with suspected a-Sha'abi attacked the US embassy in Baghdad. Order violations erupted following a base attack by the Hezbollah Hizbullah militia in Iraq, an operation carried out in response to the killing of a US citizen at a joint base for U.S. and Iraqi military forces in the Karkuk region.
