Following swift negotiations, the lists announced this morning that an agreement was reached • Amir Peretz will head the union, followed by Levi-Abaxis and Horowitz • Autumn Shapir will not be in the list

Labor chairman Amir Peretz and chairman of Meretz Nitzan Horowitz held a press conference on Monday, the first since the announcement of a joint run this morning.

Earlier this morning, Labor-Bridge and Meretz announced that they had reached an agreement on a joint run, which is expected to ensure that all left-hand lists pass the blocking percentage and the block will not lose votes to be dropped. The union will be headed by Labor chairman Amir Peretz, followed by the chairman of the Orly Levi-Abaxis Bridge. Nitzan Horowitz, chairman of Meretz, will be placed third.

It's about unifying the lists for the purpose of running a joint rather than forming a single party. Last night, before the agreement was signed, officials at work and Meretz estimated that the union might break apart by agreement immediately after the election, although this is uncertain. The Labor Conference is expected to convene tomorrow and officially approve the union agreement. Meretz institutions are also expected to approve the agreement.

The road to unification was paved after Levi-Abaxis withdrew its opposition to the move. In recent days, heavy pressure has been exerted on Amir Peretz and she must join Meretz, in the wake of surveys that show that both lists - and Meretz in particular - are at risk of not passing the blocking percentage, which could endanger the entire left bloc. Members of Knesset Itzik Shmuli and Amar Bar Lev publicly called for unification with Meretz, and behind the scenes there were also parties in the faction that threatened to quit if Peretz did not make the move.

Yesterday afternoon, Peretz told the Labor party that he had decided to appoint a negotiating team to be composed of former minister Ophir Pines-Paz and the party's secretary-general Eran Hermoni. "The time order requires serious consideration of the possibility of union," said Peretz, who for a long time opposed the move. May discourage soft right voters who like the connection between work and the bridge, but who disapprove of Meretz.

Later, in an interview with "News 12", Levi-Abaxis, who was the main opponent until the last moment, made it clear that she also gave the green light to the move: "I authorized the hand of Labor-Bridge chairman and partner, Amir Peretz, to negotiate with parties Further, because we must function as the 'responsible adult' of this political campaign. Someone needs to do this so we can lead a policy change on really important issues. "

It is estimated that Knesset Member Shapiro is not expected to be included in the new unified list, which will probably lead to the next Knesset not being elected. Shapir became a "red sheet" at work after leaving the party in favor of the "Democratic Camp," but has since quarreled with most of Meretz's senior officials. Both parties said they did not quote because they preferred to see her off the list, and made serious claims about her conduct.
