Manila-Sana
The Philippine authorities today urged about half a million people to evacuate an area near the capital, Manila, after the volcano (Tal) released ashes 14 kilometers long in the air.
And the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, according to the American Network (CNN), raised the level of alert in the (Tal) volcano to the fourth level, which means that the eruption can happen in the coming hours or days.
The institute pointed out that the main crater should be a strictly prohibited area since sudden fumes of explosions can occur and potentially lethal volcanic gases may be released.
Schools and businesses in the Philippine capital, Manila, have suspended their activities and authorities have forced thousands of people to leave their homes around (Tal), one of the smallest active volcanoes in the world.
Maria Antonia Burnas, Head of Research at the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, told reporters: "We were surprised by the speed of volcanic activity. We have detected lava that is still deep and has not reached the surface yet, but we expect a dangerous eruption at any time."
(Tal) has shown increasing activity in recent times with the escalation of fumes from it in what is considered the most dangerous activity witnessed by this volcano for years.
