Meghan Markle travels to Canada after announcement of parting with royalty 0:27

(CNN) - After a meeting of the queen with Carlos, Enrique and Meghan, who is in Canada but joined the meeting by phone, Buckingham Palace has issued a statement on the decision of the Dukes of Sussex announced last week.

“Today my family had very constructive discussions about the future of my grandson and his family. My family and I fully support Enrique and Meghan's desire to create a new life as a young family, ”says the statement released Monday.

"While we would have preferred them to remain members of the royal family who work full time, we respect and understand their desire to live a more independent life as a family while still being a valuable part of my family," he adds.

“Enrique and Meghan have made it clear that they don't want to depend on public funds in their new lives. Therefore, it was agreed that there will be a transition period in which the Sussex will spend time in Canada and the United Kingdom, ”the statement said.
