The Ministry of Transport and its affiliated entities achieved between 2016 and the end of the ninth month of last year 2019 direct and indirect returns of 891 billion Syrian pounds.

The Ministry revealed in a note about the amount of public spending and the returns achieved during the mentioned period, SANA Economic obtained a copy of it that direct returns amounted to 429 billion Syrian pounds, and the largest mass was concentrated in the maritime transport sector at about 152 billion, followed by air by about 139 billion, then land by more than 130 billion And the railway transport sector by about 8 billion pounds.

The Ministry indicated that the value of indirect returns amounted to 462 billion pounds and was achieved by reducing economic losses resulting from frequent and frequent traffic accidents, which include losses of property and medical expenses, loss of wages, part of the costs of insurance companies, and future net losses in the income of deceased or injured people as the total savings In road accidents as a result of road repair and rehabilitation during the period 2016-2019, the amount is 21 billion Syrian pounds.

The ministry pointed out in its memo to indirect returns such as savings resulting in fuel as a result of improving, maintaining and qualifying the road network, which amounted to 317 billion Syrian pounds in addition to the savings as a result of implementing the “Shanshar and Nasiriyah” railway connections of 19.5 billion Syrian pounds and the savings resulting from the increase of axial loads of 104 billion Syrian pounds In addition to it, the opening of a new cultural, economic and tourism activity on the roads axes and activating the tourist movement through the rehabilitation and improvement of the general condition of airports.

The Ministry mentioned in its memo the most important projects that are currently being worked on, in the forefront of the project of transferring gravel civilizations from Hasia quarries which has a value of 9 billion Syrian pounds and the completion rate reached 85 percent until the end of last year and the project to rehabilitate the Aleppo-Hama-Homs-Damascus railway At a cost of 2.7 billion Syrian pounds and the completion rate reached 70 percent, in addition to the project for the railway branch of the industrial zone in Hasia and the new plant of Khenifis in Homs and the work of the dry port in Hasia, which has a value of 4 billion pounds and the implementation rate reached 80 percent and will be completed during the current year.

Among the projects, according to the memorandum, are the rehabilitation of the runway at Al-Basel International Airport with the foundations of navigational lighting, which cost about 4.5 billion pounds, and the implementation rate reached 82 percent, and it is expected to be completed in the first half of this year and to purchase an aircraft (i.e. 320) and a plane from Model (i.e. 40) and the cost of the project reaches more than 15 billion pounds and the project is under implementation and is expected to be completed before the middle of this year.

The Ministry proposed to strengthen the infrastructure of the transport sector and its development and work to implement new axes of rail link with neighboring countries, especially Iraq within the Belt and Silk Road project to secure transit from Syrian ports to Iraq, Iran and Southeast Asia and China and vice versa in order to reduce the costs and time of transport compared to maritime transport To reach these countries in addition to the establishment of a residential industrial city in the Jibreen station in Aleppo and to rehabilitate and develop the main existing axes of the railway network, especially the port of Tartous - phosphate mines towards Iraq to raise the transport capacity of this axis in order to meet the volumes To move expected in line with international technical and service standards currently approved maintenance and repair of railway lines in the liberated areas and the establishment of the Academy of Railway Alhdededh and rehabilitation of cadres.

She also suggested converting existing lines and new lines to electrified lines that lead to increased production, reducing costs and improving performance, and to rely in its work on renewable energies, encouraging shipowners to register their ships under the Syrian flag, creating a ship classification authority, and securing an appropriate headquarters for the Syrian Academy for Maritime Training and Rehabilitation to accommodate its activities and services attached to the study Providing the General Organization for Maritime Training and Rehabilitation with the training requirements to cover maritime training activities in accordance with international requirements and expanding the port of Lattakia.

The Ministry is also working to increase the number of air transport fleet aircraft and replace its old planes to work to attract the largest number of domestic and international flights and tourism and expand the infrastructure projects for the road sector to enhance the utilization of the geographical location and activate the role of Syria as a dry channel for the integrated transport of neighboring countries and serve transit transit, especially North projects -South and East-West and the allocation of lands from the Ministry of Local Administration or the Ministry of Agriculture to equip them as bus stops for buses between governorates or between neighboring countries to advance the land transport sector.
