Jordan Valley annexation law, now

Something good still comes out of these election campaigns. Despite the political instability, the ideology storms. The old Labor Party is giving way to the new Labor Party - Blue and White - and it is slowly integrating into a distinct left bloc with Meretz and the joint list. We saw this in talks to form a minority government, and we heard this about Ahmad Tibi's recent threats against Yoaz Handel, which brought out the interdependence embedded there. Lieberman's real face, too, is already visible to all, having joined the left bloc in coalition negotiations, camera law, and even now in the immunity debate.

And right? About a month ago, Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that after a government headed by him would be annexed to the Jordan Valley. But in light of the existence of a transitional government, the vendor-provider doubted the legal advisers that the move should be awaited until after the election. However, it seems that bringing the Jordan Valley annexation law to the Knesset's approval right now, on the eve of elections, is a necessary and even necessary step. Beyond the fact that the conditions for the move have matured thanks to the close state and personal ties between the US and Israel, it is precisely this step that may lead to a clear decision between the blocs.

First, there is no legal prevention. In the Knesset that has been dispersed, according to the law, the government is allowed to raise bills for the Knesset's approval. If an attempt is made to torpedo the move by the dubious "transitional government" pretext, this should be disclosed. Remember that, even during Olmert's day, the High Court ruled that a transitional government could continue to engage in political affairs like any government, and did not prevent it from continuing the advanced political negotiations it was conducting.

The judges added at the time that if there was a significant political change, such as the status of Jerusalem or the Golan, this would be brought to the Knesset's approval. In other words, since the Knesset is finally voting on the move, there is no coercion here. Moreover, while in Olmert's time, it was clear that the party map was changing, that the left was falling and the right was coming to power, and that was why the negotiations were a political snatch, the political situation is different today. The Knesset will now be no different from their minds in the near future.

Second, from a political point of view, the timing and beginning of the move are now important. In all election campaigns in the past year, blue-white and Israel our home wore a right-hand mask on the eve of the election, to obscure ideological emptiness. The fact that they tried to restore the Rabin-Oslo coalition after the elections did not stop them from continuing the dubious ploy. The same is true of statements contradicting the Jordan Valley annexation. If Blue and White now opposes the law, it will be clear that it has chosen to devote itself to forming a coalition with the joint list after the election. If Lieberman objects, it will once again become clear that the hatred for Netanyahu overcomes his love for the Land of Israel. And if the law does not pass due to these parties, the public will know, quite simply, that once again the elections are between right and left ideological.

And finally, if, in order to win the vote, the move actually gets the Knesset's approval - we gained the most important thing: a renewed recognition of a historic homeland as the sovereign territory of the State of Israel.
