Russian cosmonauts Alexander Skvortsov and Oleg Skripuchka have joined the international Holocaust memorial campaign called "We remember," the Interfax News Agency released on Wednesday.

In photos, posted on social networks, each cosmonaut holds a page that says "We Remember" in Russian and English. This is according to a press release from the Jewish Congress in Russia.

One of the goals of this internet solidarity event is to unite against xenophobia, so that it will not return to a worldwide annihilation event. This event is marked every January in Russia by the local Jewish Congress and the World Jewish Congress.

It marks the opening of Holocaust Victims Memorial Week, which includes a series of federal-level education, culture and government events dedicated to International Holocaust Day, January 27 each year. Remember, this day was chosen by the United Nations at the time the Red Army liberated the Auschwitz death camp in 1945.

"The most important goals of Memorial Week are not to allow the writing of World War II results, to declare non-acceptance of any ethnic hatred, and to remember the important role of the Red Army in saving European Jewry," organizers said. They stated that the event could be attended by any social networking user who would photograph themselves with a page on which the campaign captions are listed. The post has to add the hashtag #weremember.

In January last year, more than a million and a half people from fifty countries posted such posts on social networks. This includes the heads of state in Russia and a series of ministers. It should be noted that this year the world marks 75 years of victory over the Nazis, so there is an expectation of breaking a record in the number of participants.
