Arrest of assumptions involved in demolition of the Ukrainian plane 1:42

(CNN) - A recently published video appears to show two missiles impacting flight 752 of Ukraine International Airlines on January 8.

The 176 people aboard the flight died after it was shot down over the Iranian capital, Tehran, hours after Iran had fired missiles at Iraqi bases that host US troops in retaliation for the death of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani.

The video, published by The New York Times, seems to show two missiles impacting the plane more than 20 seconds apart.

Iranian authorities acknowledged that the Iranian Army shot down the plane. On January 11, Brigadier General Amir-Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Aerospace Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, said the plane was shot down by a short-range missile and that the aircraft had been mistakenly identified as a cruise missile by an air defense operator.

Iran has not said the plane was hit twice. Iran's president Hassan Rouhani tweeted a reference to multiple "missiles" on Saturday, but made no clarification about it.

"The internal investigation of the Armed Forces has concluded that unfortunately the missiles fired due to human error caused the horrible accident of the Ukrainian plane and the death of 176 innocent people," Rouhani wrote in English, although he did not confirm how many missiles were fired. "Investigations continue to identify and process this great tragedy and unforgivable error."

Rouhani added that "the Islamic Republic of Iran deeply regrets this disastrous error," and Tehran has pledged to investigate and bring those responsible to justice.

CNN's Helen Regan contributed to this report.
