Recently, the members of the Supervisory Committee have changed. Three members have been removed, which means that they will not be renewed at the end of their term, while Qian Zhiyong, a lawyer who is a member of the "Communicate in Hong Kong" who has been appointed during the same period, is still on the list.
In the past, members of the Supervisory Committee were appointed or renewed. The government will issue announcements stating the new term, but so far no announcement has been made about Qian Zhiyong's reappointment.
The members of the IPCC website are listed in ascending order of appointment date. Qian Zhiyong (red circle) is still on the list, and the members of the 3 committees who have renewed during the same period have been killed. (Surveillance Commission Website)
Continuing members have completed their terms and removals
The Supervisory Committee updated the list of members. Liu Wenwen, Mao Leli and Su Lizhen, who were announced at the end of 2017 and renewed for two years from January 1, 2018, have been removed, while Qian Zhiyong, who was renewed during the same period, is still on the list.
In accordance with established practice, the Government will issue press releases for the appointment and renewal of members of the IPCC and will publish them in the Gazette. However, Qian Zhiyong's re-election has no relevant news this time.
The Security Bureau replied to media enquiries and confirmed that Qian Zhiyong had been re-elected for two years, and his term would expire on December 31, 2021. As for why there was no announcement, the Security Bureau said that the law did not require members of the IPCC to publish a gazette or issue a press release.
