A few days before Italian President Sergio Matrella's arrival in Israel for the International Holocaust Forum, the Italian government on Friday adopted the definition of anti-Semitism of the "International Holocaust Memory Alliance".

Due to the problematic assembly of the current Italian government, and the rise in anti-Semitism in Italy in recent months, this is a significant political event made possible mainly by pressure by the Italian president on the two coalition members - "five stars" and the Social Democratic Party.

The senior partner in the government, the left-wing party "Five Stars," has in its ranks hostile elements to Israel, some of which supported the imposition of boycotts on Israel as solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinians. In the past, "five-star" elements opposed the adoption of the definition of anti-Semitism because it also attributes anti-Semitism to anti-Israeli expressions and opposition to Israel's existence.

Israel's ambassador to Italy, Dror Ider, welcomed the Italian government's decision. "Anti-Semitism is a touch that every healthy society should fight," Eider declared. "In our era, anti-Semitism - hatred of Jews when they are Jews - was also a new anti-Semitism, which is Opposition to the existence of a nation-state for the Jewish people in Israel. The Italian government has made a big step in strengthening this just struggle against the new and old anti-Semitism. On behalf of the State of Israel, I thank Prime Minister Conte and all the political and non-governmental organizations that worked to reach this moment. "

The head of the "League", the main opposition party, is Matteo Celebini, who may head the next Italian government. Yesterday the party organized a Senate conference in Rome that called for the adoption of international anti-Semitism and dedicated to the new anti-Semitism.

The conference was also attended by Israeli Ambassador Dr. Ider and former Director General of the Foreign Ministry and President of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs and State, Dr. Dori Gold. The latter stressed in his remarks the "Red-Green Alliance", between the extreme left and radical Islam, the main cause of the new anti-Semitism that disguises itself as anti-Zionism and anti-Israel. Dr. Gold emphasized that the Iranian regime's threats to destroy Israel should be seen as a contemporary expression of anti-Semitism, one that led to the Holocaust.
