Russia today warned that the US withdrawal from the open skies treaty would pose a threat to European security, noting that such a step would compel it to take appropriate measures.
"We consider the Open Skies Treaty an important measure for building confidence and transparency in the military field ... We realize the importance and necessity of implementing its full operations ... With regard to the information received regarding a possible US withdrawal from the treaty, we would like to mention Until Russia will do everything it can to keep it and keep it alive. ”
"Washington's withdrawal from the treaty will seriously harm European security and prompt Moscow to respond," the ministry said in its statement .
It is noteworthy that the Open Skies Treaty established a program for air surveillance flights over the 35 participating countries and to monitor their military activities, and it entered into force in 2002, but reports now indicate that the United States is studying the possibility of withdrawing from it.
"The White House is examining the possibilities of withdrawing from the treaty," said Elliot Engel, chairman of the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee, recently.
