Lattakia-Sana
The strong winds that affected Latakia last night caused damage in the agricultural sector, especially the green houses in the region of Jableh and the non-harvested citrus fruits, in addition to damaging the electrical network.
Engineer Munther Khairbak, director of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform in Lattakia, told a SANA reporter that the damage was concentrated in the nunnery and Aqeeba and several farms in the region of Jableh. Initial statistics showed the presence of damage to the crops and components of more than a thousand plastic houses.
Khairbik pointed out that damage also occurred to plastic tunnels and zucchini plants on about 200 dunums, in addition to damage to citrus trees through the fall of large quantities of fruits, especially from the branches of Abusra and Mendelina remaining without harvesting, sometimes it may reach more than 65 percent, indicating that the committees began to limit the damage and document it In order to compensate the farmers who meet the conditions of the compensation fund.
The wind also caused a number of trees to fall on the electrical lines feeding the axis of Astamo Juba Berghal, which led to the interruption of electrical feeding to the entire axis and the suspension of pumping drinking water at a time when the Electricity Company workshops in cooperation with the Directorate of Agriculture and the Water Corporation worked to repair the faults and remove the broken trees.
In turn, the director of the Drinking Water Corporation, Engineer Munther Dweiba, affirmed in a similar statement that the Corporation's workshops are following up on the work of electricity workshops in the region to restore pumping water to villages and towns as soon as the electrical network is repaired.
The winds caused a number of rice trees to fall on a high-tension tower in the town of Al-Mulaqa, in the countryside of Qirdaha, where the Electricity Company's workshops worked to restore electrical power and repair the resulting faults.
