(CNN Spanish) - In an escalation of violence in the border region of Tamaulipas, the Mexican army killed eleven criminals in the municipality of Miguel Alemán, in another incident, the state police arrested three armed civilians after a persecution and shooting in the central area of ​​Reynosa, while in the city of Rio Bravo there were clashes with bullets between criminal groups this Thursday.

The Tamaulipas Security and Peace Coordination group reported that a National Army patrol was ambushed by armed civilians in the Los Angeles settlement.

In response to the aggression and after a half-hour confrontation, eleven suspected criminals were killed.

Forensic personnel of the State prosecutor's office, guarded by a convoy of eight military vehicles, collected the bodies and transferred them to the amphitheater of that border city.

The authorities also secured twelve long weapons of the AK-47 type and an explosive device made by hand.

In another violent event, this time in Reynosa, state police stopped a vehicle with armed civilians who did not obey and began firing at the police.

After a chase they were finally arrested.

The governor of Tamaulipas, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca met with businessmen in the same area when the incident occurred.

At night, social network users reported various clashes between groups of armed civilians, a situation that caused the fear of residents who sought shelter from the shootings that were heard
on the outskirts of their homes.

So far, the authorities have not offered details of what happened. CNN has requested information but has not received a response.

Last Monday, three members of the National Guard and one of the army were killed in a clash with armed civilians, state authorities confirmed.

According to figures from the Mexican government, at least 48 people have died violently in Tamaulipas in the first 16 days of January.
