Unknown pneumonia has broken out in Wuhan since the end of 2019. Hong Kong media quoted people familiar with the matter on January 18 that at least three suspected cases of new coronavirus infection were found in Chinese cities outside Wuhan, two of whom were in Shenzhen and one was in Shanghai.

The South China Morning Post quoted three different sources as saying that at least two suspected cases were being isolated at Shenzhen Third People's Hospital, and one was under observation in Shanghai, but some government departments declined to comment on the news.

The report quoted medical experts as saying that to be classified as a suspicious case, the patient's symptoms must be similar to those of patients with the new coronavirus, have recently visited Wuhan, or have close contact with known patients.
