President Bashar al-Assad issued Legislative Decree No. 4 of 2020 to amend Article 309 of the Penal Code promulgated by Legislative Decree No. 148 of 1949 and its amendments.

Article / 1 / Article / 309 / of the Penal Code promulgated by Legislative Decree No. 148 of 1949 and its amendments are amended to read as follows ..
1 / Whoever broadcasts, publishes or re-publishes fabricated facts or false or fake allegations by one of the means mentioned in the second and third paragraphs of Article 208 or through the network defined by the law regulating communication on the network and combating crime, is punished with temporary detention and a fine of one to five million Syrian pounds. Informatics issued by Legislative Decree No. / 17/2012 / or any other means to cause the decline or instability of the national banknotes or their exchange rates specified in the official bulletins or to undermine confidence in the strength of the country's cash and bonds and all bonds related to public financial confidence.
2 / The court may order the publication of the judgment.
Article 2
1 / The estimated mitigating reasons do not apply to the crimes punishable in the previous article.
2 / It is not permissible to release the accused in the crimes stipulated in the previous article in all the roles of investigation and trial.
Article 3 / This legislative decree shall be published in the Official Gazette.
