US President Donald Trump has appealed to some heavyweight legal experts to help defend him in the Senate impeachment trial. Yesterday (Friday) were added to the defense team of U.S. President, former Independent Attorney Ken Starr, who nearly paved the way for the ouster of former President Bill Clinton in 1998, and well-known attorney Alan Dershowitz.

The team defending the president will be led by White House attorney Pat Chipolone and Trump's private lawyer J. Skolow. Trump's attorney and former Florida attorney general Pam Bondi and former independent attorney Robert Ray will also be on the defense team, a source said in detail.

The trial officially opened last Thursday, though it will only enter Tuesday for the opening statements. The Senate-led Republican trial will determine if Trump is indeed ousted. The Democratic-majority House voted for impeaching Trump for two charges relating to his conduct against Ukraine - abusing power and disrupting the Congressional investigation. The decision was made in the House of Representatives after an investigation centered on Trump's demand from Ukraine to interrogate his political rival Joe Biden and his son Hunter.

The Senate is expected to win Trump, because none of the 53 Republican Senate members supported his impeachment, a move that requires a two-thirds majority of the Senate. Trump denied violating the law and called the impeachment procedure "fake."

One of the new strengthening players on Trump's defense team is Ken Starr, a former federal judge who has held a senior position in the Justice Department under President George W. Bush. Starr's extensive investigation into the sexual affair with former US President Clinton with a White House intern named Monica Lewinsky served as the basis for his rejection in the House of Representatives on a charge of lying and disrupting trial. The Senate, then a Democratic Recommending impeachment on 11 grounds.

In 2016, Star was ousted from the presidency of Baylor University, a private institution of the Texas Baptist community, after an investigation by an outside law firm ruled that university heads were accused of sexually abusing football players. His critics at the time accused him of turning a blind eye to sexual violence on the campus where he worked, after pursuing Clinton and his sexual relationships.

Both Starr and Dershowitz also served as attorneys for sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who was found dead in his New York jail cell last year, where he was held on charges of trafficking women. In 1999, Trump even said unflattering things about Starr, saying in an interview on NBC's "Today" program after Clinton's acquittal that he thinks Starr is crazy. "Starr is a freak. I'm sure there's something in his closet too," Trump said.
