Despite threats to oust Knesset Speaker and referral to the Judiciary, Edelstein seems likely to enter plenary only next week • Reason: Jerusalem's Great Leaders Conference

Blitz on Edelstein: According to Knesset estimates, the Knesset Speaker will not enter the Knesset plenary this week, but only next week, due to the International Holocaust Conference in Jerusalem on Wednesday and Thursday this week. It should be noted that as long as the Knesset plenum does not discuss and approve the decision of the regular committee to form the committee Knesset to discuss Netanyahu's immunity - the Knesset Committee cannot be convened.

If Edelstein does not enter the Knesset again next week, Blue and White intend to initiate a move to oust the Speaker of the Knesset from his position and the election of MK Meir Cohen (blue and white) to the Speaker of the Knesset.

Knesset Speaker MK Avi Nissenkorn (Blue and White) contacted Knesset Member Ilan Yanun on Tuesday to request urgent clarification as to when Knesset Speaker Edelstein must convene the plenum to approve the establishment of the Knesset Committee. After the establishment of the commission, opposition factions will be able to start a debate on granting immunity to Prime Minister Netanyahu.

"Our position is that the Knesset plenary must be put to the vote the same week that the application was submitted, and certainly no later than the beginning of the next week," Nissenkorn notes in his letter to Linnon. "Last Tuesday, I again appealed to the Speaker to request the plenary last week. The plenum has not yet been invited. "

90 MKs for impeachment, and not 60

Over the weekend, officials in blue and white threatened that they would act to oust Edelstein if he continued to block the plenum and the establishment of the Knesset committee. But in spite of the threat - it seems a long way to go. According to dry law, in order to oust the Knesset Speaker, a majority of 90 Knesset members is needed. However, Edelstein is a Knesset Speaker during a transitional period, who is elected by discretion and not as a result of voting and may be replaced by a regular majority.

But according to Yinon's clear opinion, in the present case this is not a change of chair - but a dismissal - and therefore a majority of 90 MKs will be required.
As I recall, last Monday, the Knesset Speaker submitted 25 signatures of MKs from five opposition factions, constituting a majority in the Knesset, to the plenum urgently to discuss Netanyahu's immunity. Nissenkorn emphasizes in his letter that in the opinion issued by Yinon, it was made clear that the Knesset plenum must be convened.

It should be noted that although the opposition has a majority to approve the resolution in the plenary, the person who determines the schedule for the plenary hearings is only the Speaker of the Knesset. The law states that after submitting 25 signatures of MKs requiring a plenary convening of the Knesset Speaker for income "within a reasonable period of time", it does not specify a definite time.

The Likud has already made it clear that they will work in March to thwart the vote on Netanyahu's request for immunity before the elections. The Knesset Committee is forming a majority against granting immunity to Netanyahu, and Likud argues that discussion of the matter during an election period will become a propaganda arena instead of a quasi-judicial hearing.

About a week and a half ago, Edelstein made it clear that he disagreed with Yanun's opinion, and that convening the Knesset committee at the present time would be a serious mistake. "Such an important procedure, a kind of judicial process, must not become a stage for improper election propaganda," said the Speaker of the Knesset. "We all know that during this period the Knesset Committee will become a jungle that would disdain the legislature."

Meanwhile, Blue and White MK MK Benny Gantz attacked Prime Minister Netanyahu on the backdrop of a report that threatened to fire Defense Minister Naftali Bennett if he refuses a comprehensive unification among the right-wing parties. "Those who are willing to use Israeli security to bring Kahana supporters into the Knesset - should not be prime minister of Israel," Gantz wrote, adding: "This past week has not been easy for the citizens of the State of Israel, who have unfortunately been exposed to everything ugly in our politics - deals, lies, agreements That are violated, a word that is not a word and a political trade led by defendant Netanyahu and his friends to the Immunity Alliance.
