Yaffe Issachar, the mother of Israeli young woman Naama Issachar, said on Sunday when she returned to Israel that "the moment of truth has arrived, this week we will know when she is released." The mother further added that "It's not an easy week, and if there are any surprises I'll go get her." Issachar sought to strengthen Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that she "believes he will bring her back as soon as possible."

Russian President Putin is expected to visit Israel on Thursday, in light of reports of his intention to declare a pardon for her daughter serving a sentence of 7.5 years in Moscow. Putin will come as part of a delegation of dozens more leaders to attend the World Holocaust Forum, hosted by State President Reuben Rivlin on Wednesday through Friday.

Netanyahu, who spoke with Putin last week, said this morning at the cabinet meeting: "I also spoke with President Putin about Naama Issachar's business, and I hope that this opportunity of the visit will also be heard soon." Netanyahu's remarks reflect the optimism in Jerusalem that Issachar will return to Israel soon. Also on Friday, Netanyahu said he was "much more optimistic" after talking to the Russian president, and that he felt "Putin has a real willingness to come to a resolution on the issue."

According to a report in the Kommersant newspaper, Russian government officials do not rule out the possibility that Shachar will receive a pardon on his visit. At the same time, the officials expressed resentment that Israel did not respond to Russia's request to extradite Russian hacker Alexei Burkov, who was arrested at Ben Gurion Airport in 2015. "I would like to see it as a two-way road," one of the officials explained. They did not rule out the possibility of Issachar's release for humanitarian reasons.

Naama Issachar was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison after being caught with a cannabis at Moscow Airport, and last month the appeal she filed for her sentence was rejected. Last week, Yaffe Issachar said: "I am now optimistic and sincerely request the President of Russia to act as a true friend of Israel and the Jewish people and as a world power leader and to release my soul back to her home in Israel."
