(CNN) - “Parasite” became the first foreign-language film to win the coveted award for the best cast of the Actors Guild (Screen Actors Guild, SAG Awards) on Sunday night, crowning an annual ceremony that was following the script in terms of individual victories.

The most surprising element of the event could have been acceptance speeches, which were practically devoid of politics, apart from Robert De Niro's comments upon receiving an award for his achievements during his lifetime.

The victory of "Parasite" broke what had been a night when people of color were completely overlooked, while the sector is under greater scrutiny for the lack of diversity in their awards.

“I am very honored to receive this award in front of such incredible actors that I admire. I will never forget this beautiful night, ”said cast member Song Kang Ho through a translator.

Five members of the cast of "Parasite", out of a total of 10, took the stage to receive the award.

Director Bong Joon Ho was seen proudly recording the triumph of the cast from his seat.

The guild awards are closely watched for clues as to how the Oscar race might turn out, but the alleged favorite of the Academy Awards, the epic “1917” of World War I, does not really lend itself to the designation of "cast", and was not among the nominees of SAG.

Joaquin Phoenix and Renee Zellweger received the best acting awards for "Joker" and "Judy," for their portrayal of the comic villain and the tormented singer Judy Garland, respectively.

"Judy Garland, 50 years later, your community is thinking about you tonight," Zellweger said.

After several speeches with political orientation in the Golden Globes earlier this month, the ceremony focused much more personally than politically. That changed briefly when De Niro accepted his prize, making an absolute defense of the actors who get into the public arena, without apologizing for having “a bigger voice” due to his stardom, and noted: “As a citizen, I have so much right as anyone ... to express my opinion. ”

The awards for secondary actors were also for alleged favorites, as Laura Dern and Brad Pitt won for "Marriage Story" and "Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood." (Jennifer Lopez, ignored by the Oscars for her role in "Hustlers," was one of the losers).

Pitt gave a humorous acceptance speech, in which he began by saying, "I have to add this to my Tinder profile." He then proceeded to joke that the role - of a man who takes off his shirt and has an irregular marital history - was not really within his reach.

As if it were a signal, Pitt's ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston, later picked up an award for the backstage drama “The Morning Show,” which represents the first victory for the new Apple TV + programming service.

The victory was indicative of a night in which SAG voters distributed wealth among a variety of services. Amazon won its second prize for best comedy set for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” as well as for actor Tony Shalhoub, and added Phoebe Waller-Bridge to “Fleabag,” Emmy winner.

The Netflix story of the British royal family, "The Crown", was first crowned as the best dramatic ensemble.

Peter Dinklage, meanwhile, won for the first time, after six nominations, for HBO's "Game of Thrones."

In another sign that Hollywood tends to enjoy watching their own stories, Sam Rockwell and Michelle Williams were recognized in the movie / miniseries category for FX's "Fosse / Verdon."

Although SAG is the only televised award of the four guilds that represent actors, writers, directors and producers, it is not the most reliable barometer in terms of predicting the Academy Awards.

On Saturday, the Producers Guild awarded "1917", after his victory in the Golden Globe.

Among the guilds, the producers have been the best indications of the Oscars, with their best film winner aligning with the eventual Oscar election in eight of the last 10 years, including “Green Book” in 2019. SAG chose “Black Panther” for the distribution award last year.

During that period, the Directors Guild (DGA) has coincided with the Oscar winner six times, and SAG and the Writers Guild (WGA) four each. DGA and WGA will present their awards on January 25 and February 1, respectively.

The film and television awards for the distribution of action doubles, presented before the air, went to "Avengers: Endgame" and "Game of Thrones."
