(CNN Spanish) - Authorities in Mexico captured the alleged leader of the Northeast Cartel, identified only as Rodolfo “N” of 38 years, also known as “Mostro” or “Pomo” in the state of Nuevo León, as reported on Monday Attorney General of Nuevo León through a statement posted on Twitter. "This detention was carried out as a result of several months of investigation and intelligence work," they said.
In addition, "one of the cells of the same cartel of organized crime was dismantled, after the capture of five more people, including a woman." The detainees are investigated for crimes against health and carrying weapons. CNN does not know if they have legal representation.
The statement expands that they were intercepted after operations in the municipalities of San Nicolás and Apodaca and at the time of their arrest they were found "several doses of drugs and firearms."
According to the official report, the group of people who were captured "could be related and are investigated by the wave of violence recorded in recent months" in that state.
