China reiterated today the importance of safeguarding the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Libya.
Commenting on the Berlin summit on Libya in Germany, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told a press conference that "Beijing has always maintained an objective and impartial position on the issue of Libya and has adhered to the principles of the United Nations Charter and respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Libya."
Geng pointed out that Beijing insisted on advancing the political settlement of the issue of Libya under the auspices of the United Nations, stressing that his country is ready to work with the international community to enhance the implementation of the results of the Berlin Summit and make a positive contribution to restoring peace, stability and development in Libya.
A conference aimed at strengthening the ceasefire and preparing the ground for the launching of a peace process in Libya was held yesterday in the German capital Berlin, in which the participants stressed the need not to interfere in the internal affairs of this country and that the solution to the crisis in it would be through a comprehensive political process.
The situation in Libya has been further aggravated recently by the arrival of groups of mercenary terrorists sent by the Turkish regime from northern Syria to Libya.
