That's not how you build a wall, east

While Yael German (against the annexation of the Valley) and Yoaz Handel (in favor) - both white and blue - within a few days have completely reversed versions of their list of plans for Israel's eastern settlement, the main thing is missed: both the Likud and the previous Labor governments neglected the Valley. There is an unimaginable gap between the high and high declarations over the years regarding the importance of this land for Israel's security and numerous statements such as "in every peace settlement in the Jordan Valley will be part of the State of Israel" and the minimalist colonial reality on the ground.

The Jordan Valley settlements planted by Fai and the Labor Party froze for many years and did not grow. The vision of Yigal Alon and Ra'anan Weiz, the thinkers of this settlement, about 50-30 settlement points and a population of about 50,000, never materialized. Although it doubled from about 3,000 people to about 6,000, both Labor and Likud did not settle on the rift that would set off their political pretensions, and the work was sufficient to seize large areas through agriculture (about 100,000 dunams). The Likud fails to make Maale Ephraim the capital of the valley, instead of a city once again Tens of thousands of residents live, live there now only 1,400 people. This is no way to build a wall, certainly not the security wall, settlements and East sovereignty of the State of Israel.

As part of the governmental stalemate, which does not allow real strategic change and leaves the small settlement politically and politically vulnerable, David Alhaini, the council's head for the past decade, is doing wonders. But a respectable 6 percent annual increase will not cause a strategic change. Only a few thousand Jews live in the local councils covering 850,000 dunams, compared to 50,000 or more in 20 and 30 times smaller regional councils, such as Samaria or Benjamin.

Even when the emphasis is placed on spatial and territorial concept, the settlement mass must not be neglected, but Israel has been suffering from this for many years. Theoretically, all the residents of the valley can be housed on several dozen high floors in the center of the country. Therefore, anyone who thinks that Netanyahu and Trump's sovereignty will give Israel security for the future of the valley is wrong. As long as no cities like Ma'aleh Adumim or Ariel are to be built in the valley, and tens of thousands of Jews will come to Israel, Israel will find it difficult to secure its future. The attempt to turn the issue of sovereignty in the valley into a political issue and part of the election campaign, therefore misses the essence and rips from the real reality on the ground.
