Pressure on Jewish power to retire: Proposal to lower the blocking rate in the next Knesset
Photo: Shlomi Gabay, Edit: Lear SpiegelerThe Likud continues to exert pressure on a Jewish power party to retire from the race in the 23rd Knesset elections. To Walla! NEWS learned on Monday that in recent talks between the parties, the Likud raised a possibility in the upcoming Knesset to lower the blocking percentage, in a way that would benefit the party in the next election, and that it would now retire and transfer its support to another party, such as Torah Jewry.
The talks between the parties are led by Itamar Ben Gvir, a leader of Jewish power, and Likud leader Mickey Zohar. The proposal to lower the blockage rate has come in the background of other proposals that have been offered to the party since the lists were closed over the weekend, in which an attempt was made to advance a move whereby Jewish power would support Torah Jewry in elections, and the party would see Ben Gvir's appointment as minister in the next government. Ben Gvir and Zohar refused to comment.

Netanyahu has tried to promote the idea of raising the blocking percentage quite a few times in recent years, but was blocked by his right-wing partners. On the eve of the first election, in April 2019, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that he was promoting the initiative to reduce the blockage rate by half a percent in an attempt to save the small protests in the right-wing bloc.
Reducing the blockage rate by half, from 3.25% to 2.75%, will allow smaller parties to enter the Knesset more easily. In 2014, the Knesset approved raising the blocking percentage from 2% to 3.25%, during which Israel led our house and Avigdor Lieberman.
