The government that presides over Donald Trump plans to impose new immigration restrictions on citizens of seven countries, thus extending the veto already in force against seven other countries, according to the CNN network and the Buzzfeed New information website.
Unlike the current travel restrictions, the new regulations could limit certain immigrant visas from those additional countries, to avoid arrests by mistake of residents of the United States.
It is still unknown which countries could be affected.
January 27 marks the third anniversary of the controversial ban on travel to the United States imposed by Trump's executive order on citizens of Muslim-majority countries.
In 2018, the Supreme Court endorsed a third version of the ban, which restricts the entry of citizens of Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria and Yemen, along with Venezuela and North Korea. Chad was removed from the list last April, after the White House said the country improved security measures.
The new proposal under review limits some immigrant visas to citizens of seven other nations.
Buzzfeed News reported that it obtained a draft of the ban, which did not contain the names of countries but certain elements of identification, such as countries that do not provide the United States with "identity information" and present a "risk" of " terrorist trips. "
One was described as "an important strategic partner in the global fight against terrorism" but, nevertheless, is failing in "identity management". Another said that "does not work with the United States in matters of border security and immigration."
Plans under review
The plans, which are still under review, are based on contributions from the National Security and State departments, as well as from the White House, according to CNN.
According to the Administration, restrictions are used to encourage countries to comply with national security requirements, such as sharing information with federal agencies.
The interim secretary of National Security, Chad Wolf, said Friday that the United States is establishing criteria that all governments must meet to help examine foreigners seeking to enter the United States.
"For a small number of countries that lack the will or ability to meet these criteria, travel restrictions may be necessary to mitigate threats," he said in prepared statements for an event of the Group of Experts on National Security.

According to Wolf, restrictions are imposed because a country does inadequate work to share information or because it represents a high risk to public security or national security.
