Rockets fired at the Iraqi government's administration and embassies • Two rockets reportedly exploded in the Middle East embassy

Iraqi media reports that rockets were aimed at the Iraqi government's administration and embassy • Two rockets were reported to have fallen near the embassy

Rockets were launched at the US Embassy in Baghdad, Arab media reported on Monday. The AP, which was based on security sources, reported that two rockets fell near the embassy building.

Saudi Arabia's Saudi Arabia network also reported that alarms were sounding in the area, and reports based on Iraqi sources said two Katyushas had fallen near the building. Other sources reported to Reuters that no rocket attack location was identified at this time.

Sources later confirmed to the Reuters news agency that three rockets fell in the green area that populated the government buildings and foreign embassies. The three rockets were launched outside Baghdad, from the Zafrania area, southwest of the administration district, which is in the capital. According to sources, two rockets landed near the US embassy.

The embassy area has become a destination for pro-Iranian militias in recent times. After the US attack on the base of "Iraq's Hezbollah regiments" in the east of the country, crowds of pro-Iranian activists stormed the embassy and set fire to the entry post. A few days after Suleimani's assassination, missiles were reported in the embassy area.

Earlier today, four protesters and two police officers were killed in Baghdad and other sites in Iraq, during clashes between police and protesters. The protest has been ongoing since October, in light of the US-Iranian exchange swap, which culminated in the assassination of Quds Qasim Suleimani, and Deputy Commander of suspected al-Sha'abi, Iraq's Shi'ite militia, Abu Mahdi al-Mohandis.
