Dayan is the daughter of the late Moshe Dayan, the Defense Minister and the 4th Chief of Staff of the IDF, and his wife Ruth, and the sister of the director, the screenwriter and the actor, the late Asi Dayan. She began her public path in the leadership of peace movements and worked extensively to promote human rights, including promoting the status of women and also helping as much as she could to the proud community.

In 1992, Dayan was elected to the Knesset on behalf of the Labor Party and served as a Knesset member until 2003. She was the first chair of the Committee on the Advancement of Woman's Status and during her years as a Knesset Member was the legislator for the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Law. law and order.

At the end of her parliamentary tenure, Dayan led the Meretz list in the Tel Aviv-Jaffa municipal elections in 2003.
