Hundreds of Central American immigrants found themselves trapped between the Mexico and Guatemala border following the Mexican government's decision to block the flow of immigration from Central American countries to the United States.

Hundreds of migrants clashed with Mexican National Guard forces trying to repel the desperate migrants by firing means to disperse demonstrations.

Naked children and desperate parents were photographed in the makeshift refugee camp set up by migrants among the garbage piles on the banks of the Sochiata River, which separates Mexico from Guatemala. Others built makeshift rafts in a desperate attempt to cross the river.

Yesterday, Mexico declared that it would not allow migrants from its southern border on their way to the United States and sent a large National Guard force to block the wave of immigration.

The decision is the result of an ongoing U.S. government policy pushing the Mexico City administration to stop the incessant influx of migrants through the southern border of the United States. The Mexican government's decision is a feat for President Trump.

But this is a humanitarian achievement for the immigrants themselves. Many preferred to risk their lives on a night of storming the barbed wire fences and firing rubber bullets of his National Guard force. Others even risked throwing stones at the guards.

"We are stuck in the no-man's-land," he told AFP Allan of Ahia, a Honduran citizen who came to the riverbank with his wife and two-year-old son. Mahia tried five times to enter the United States, but never managed to cross the border.

"They are planning to remove us from here. We have no water or food. We have no more hope of continuing down the road," complains Ahihah. Many who tried to cross the border at other points were arrested and returned to Guatemala.

"I'm going to wait here for as long as it will take. God will take care of us and open the gates for us," predicts Alana Vasquez in an interview with the Associated Press while her small children whine at her.

For most immigrants, who come from Honduras, returning to a life of horror under armed gang rule and abject poverty is no longer an option. The Guatemalan government reported this week that 4,000 people entered its territory from both border crossings, en route to Mexico, 1,700 of which 400 were returned to Guatemala.
