Parkinson: when medication is not enough 2:36

(CNN) - Ozzy Osbourne made his diagnosis of Parkinson's disease public.

MIRA: What is Parkinson's disease?

In an interview with Robin Roberts of "Good Morning America," aired Tuesday, the legendary rocker shared the news with his wife Sharon at his side.

The 71-year-old musician said that revealing his illness was like taking a weight off.

"I feel better now that I have recognized the fact that I have a Parkinson's case," he said. "And I just hope (my fans) endure and be there for me because I need them."

Osbourne has had several health problems since last year, including a serious infection and a fall that, he said, led him to have the "worst" year of his life.

“When I had the fall it was completely bad (the moment),” he said. "I went to the bathroom and fell."

Osbourne said that "he simply fell and landed with a blow to the ground."

"I remember lying there thinking, 'Well, that's it.' Very quiet, ”he said. “Sharon got me an ambulance. After that, everything went downhill. ”

He said he has been recovering for almost a year.

"The next month, one year," said Osbourne, "the worst, longest, most painful and miserable year of my life."

There has been much speculation about the musician's health since he postponed his concerts last year.

According to Roberts, Osbourne wanted to make his fight public because of recent headlines that he was in health problems and "on his deathbed."

His wife, the co-host of the talk show Sharon Osbourne, said the rocker suffers from "PRKN 2, which is a form of Parkinson's."

"There are so many different types of Parkinson's," he said. “It is not a death sentence by any stretch of the imagination, but it does affect certain nerves in your body. It's like you have a good day, a good day afterwards and then a really bad day. ”

Ozzy Osbourne said he is receiving treatment for the disease and said fans should not rule it out.

"I'm not done yet," he said. "I'm not going anywhere yet."
