The six teenagers were celebrating the birthday of one of them, and they joked to ring a door and then walk away, believing that another young man lived in the house. But they chose the wrong address and the wrong person opened the door. "I happen to be that angry man," said Debbie Ruiz, the mother of one of the young men. His son, Drake, and three more paid for it with his life.
That man he was referring to has been identified by the police as Anurag Chandra, 42. On Sunday night, in Corona, a suburb of Los Angeles (California), he went out in pursuit of the young people in his Infiniti Q50 car and, after 10:30 pm, rammed into his vehicle, a 2002 Toyota Prius.
The young people's car crashed into a tree. On board were the driver, 18, and five children, all of them men. After the crash, three were trapped in the vehicle and the other three were fired, according to local broadcaster KTLA.
One died on the spot; two others did it in the hospital. The fatalities have been identified as Drake Ruiz, Daniel Hawkins and Jacob Ivascu, all 16 years old. The life of the other three injured is not in danger.
After the collision, witnesses followed the other driver to a nearby address and reported it to the authorities. He was arrested at 2:45 in the morning, and now faces a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
