World alert for coronavirus 1:09
(CNN Spanish) - In Nicaragua, health authorities and the Pan American Health Organization reported on Tuesday what they called a global epidemiological alert for the so-called coronavirus, which has started with an outbreak in the community of Wuhan, China, and which has already affected hundreds of people.
To prevent the virus from entering Nicaragua, health authorities announced some measures that will be applied at airports, land border posts and public and private health units. CNN reported Tuesday that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States confirmed the first case of coronavirus in that territory.
According to specialists, symptoms include respiratory distress, cough, pneumonia and muscle aches.

“In the border posts and airports, we are strengthening surveillance with all the people who come from these countries at risk that we already talked about, Japan, Korea, China, and Thailand, who come with respiratory processes, with illness, with flu, that we are going To do surveillance at home for 7 days, in conjunction with PAHO, we are reviewing the care protocols and diagnostic tests that we are going to review and the health personnel, both doctors and nurses in the public system, will be strengthened and private of the country, ”said Carolina Dávila, Minister of Health of Nicaragua.
