(CNN) - After 16 years and two Super Bowl victories with the New York Giants, Eli Manning is ready to hang his helmet.

The quarterback will announce his retirement Friday morning, the Giants announced Wednesday.

“Eli is our only two-time most valuable Super Bowl player and one of the best players in the history of our franchise. He represented our franchise as an accomplished professional with dignity and responsibility, ”said John Mara, president and CEO of the Giants, in a statement.

Between November 21, 2004 and November 23, 2017, Manning started 210 consecutive regular season games, then the second longest streak of a quarterback in NFL history, behind Brett Favre's 297 games .

After staying out of a game, he started the next 22 in a row, which gave him 232 starts in 233 games, plus 12 postseason games. Manning never missed a game due to an injury.

Manning, 39, has the highest percentage of Giants career completion, with 60.29%, and was selected for four Pro Bowls. His two victories in the Super Bowl were over the New England Patriots.

Although Manning participated in 16 games in the 2018-19 season, he played only four in the most recent season, after being replaced by Daniel Jones, the sixth overall pick in last year's draft.

Outside the soccer field, Manning has donated money and time for children's health, leading the Tackle Kids Cancer initiative at the Children's Cancer Institute at Hackensack Meridan Health in New Jersey and funding Eli Manning children's clinics at Batson Children's Hospital in Jackson, Mississippi.

Eli Manning is the younger brother of retired NFL quarterback Peyton Manning. His father, Archie, was also an NFL star quarterback.
