Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong accepted Bloomberg during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and mentioned Hong Kong's anti-revision storm. He stated that he did not consider the protest methods of the demonstrators and pointed out that the SAR government should respond to the concerns of the protesters about the high property prices, otherwise "one country, two systems" might not be maintained.

Lee Hsien Loong said he sympathized with the protesters in Hong Kong, but could not see how their protest could solve the problem. He pointed out that Hong Kong youths were discouraged because of the high property prices in Hong Kong, and the growing importance of Hong Kong to China as cities in mainland China became more affluent.

He said that understanding the problem caused Hong Kong people to feel anxious, frustrated and disappointed about the future, but he felt that such a course of resistance would not improve the problem. However, he believes that the Hong Kong government has a responsibility to act on the economic dissatisfaction that constitutes the demonstrations.

Many demonstrators in Hong Kong have stated that the purpose of the struggle is to strive for greater democracy, not cheaper housing. However, many people, including the Hong Kong Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, also believe that housing problems and inequality are the main factors of social unrest. Li Xianlong pointed out that the lack of space for himself is a basic health issue, and believes that the Hong Kong Government must make progress on basic issues, otherwise "one country, two systems" will be difficult to maintain for another 27 years.
